President of the Republic of Yemen

President of the Republic of Yemen is the head of state of Yemen.
Under the Constitution of Yemen, the president is also the supreme commander of the armed forces and head of the executive branch of the Yemeni government.
The first president of Yemen and the incumbent is Ali Abdullah Saleh, who took office on 22 May 1990, the day on which North Yemen and South Yemen was unified as Chairman of the Presidential Council. On 1 October 1994, the position of President of Yemen was created and Saleh took office.
